About Tanzania:

Tanzania, the largest country in East Africa, covers a vast area of 945,087-km (364,898 sq. miles). The unique landscapes of its diverse interior are the result of extensive volcanic activity and tectonic faulting, which created the Great Rift Valley. Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro, at 5,895 m (19349 ft), is the highest on the continent, and the country shares Africa's three largest lakes - Victoria, Malawi (also know as Nyasa) and Tanganyika - with its East African neighbours. Uganda borders Tanzania to the north, sharing Lake Victoria waters and the prosperous, fertile lands along its shoreline.

To the northeast is Kenya, where the annual wildebeest migration spills over fromTanzania's great Serengeti National Park into Kenya's Maasai Mara National Reserve. The western boundary is formed by Rwanda, Burundi and by Lake Tanganyika, the deepest lake in Africa. To the south of Tanzania lie Zambia and Malawi (here the boundary is partly formed by the crystal-clear waters of Lake Malawi's northern shores), while the Ruvuma River separates Tanzania and Mozambique and heads cross-country from the west to the warm Indian Ocean.

Host to three World Heritage Sites - the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Selous Game Reserve - Tanzania harbors some of Africa's largest and most renowned wildlife parks and reserves. At the same time it is a country that's rich in history and culture, and it has a fascinating architectural heritage left by the cross-cultural exchanges that were brought about via the old trade routes.

Imagine a stone so exquisite that it radiates three different hues from its heart; a stone so rare it is only found in one place on earth; a stone so sought-after that it is proclaimed to have only a decade or so before its single source is depleted. That stone is Tanzanite-one of Africa's most valuable treasures, found in only one place on earth, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Tanzanite's mesmerizing color and unique investment potential make it today "the world's most desired gem". UNTAMED SAFARIS (EA) LTD can take you to the place where Tanzanite is available so you can buy it and take it home as a beautiful souvenir of your travels in Tanzania.

THE TANZANIA EXPERIENCE: (click here for more info)

Think of the "African experience" and a kaleidoscope of images springs to mind; herds of zebra, wildebeest and gazelle stretching to the horizon under pearly dawn skies; a cheetah stalking through dry grass; a warrior striding into the sunset; white beaches backed by coconut palms swaying in the breeze off a warm sea; a snow-capped mountain rising out of the red dust of the plains. All these images reflect the beauty of not simply a great continent, but just one country - Tanzania. But Tanzania is much more than a set of stereotyped Hollywood images. It is a modern, progressive state with a rich cultural and historical heritage that began almost four million years ago when our primitive ancestors first left the forest and walked upright onto the plains. Formed by massive earth upheavals of ages past, when the Rift Valley split East Africa from Mozambique to Ethiopia, the area was already home to an ape-like creature that stood on two legs
